Reliability Engineer

Location:

Geleen, NL, 6167 RD

Job Function:  Operations - Eng. & Reliability

OCI Nitrogen is the world’s largest producer of melamine and one of Europe’s leading suppliers of nitrogen fertilizers.

When you join OCI, you have the opportunity to make a real impact every day while developing your career in an international and innovative organization.

At OCI, you contribute to a more sustainable living environment. Our melamine is used in everyday products such as tables, chairs, laminates and cars. Our fertilizers help ensure food production worldwide, and with AdBlue® we support the reduction of harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from diesel engines. You come into contact with our products every day often without even realizing it.

Sustainability is a key focus at OCI Nitrogen. We continuously invest in best available technologies to minimize emissions, resulting in some of the lowest emission levels within our global peer group.

OCI Nitrogen is seeking a Reliability Engineer to strengthen our engineering organisation and drive sustainable improvements in asset performance, availability, and safety across our ammonia and fertilizer production facilities.

This role sits at the centre of operations, maintenance, and engineering, with a clear mandate to eliminate bad actors, improve maintenance strategies, and embed a culture of ownership-driven reliability.

Role overview

  • Act as the focal point for reliability of critical assets within assigned plant(s) (e.g. ammonia, nitric acid, utilities)
  • Drive defect elimination through structured Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and ensure closure of actions
  • Monitor asset health using condition monitoring data (vibration, process data, inspections) and identify early degradation
  • Lead and support investigations into trips, high vibration events, and recurring failures
  • Develop and optimise preventive maintenance (PM) strategies using RCM/FMECA principles
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical teams to improve equipment availability and performance
  • Ensure reliability risks are identified, quantified, and mitigated in a timely manner
  • Support turnaround (TA) scoping by identifying high-risk equipment and defining inspection strategies
  • Maintain and improve asset data quality in SAP / APM systems

Key responsibilities

  • Own and manage bad actor lists and reliability improvement plans
  • Analyse trends from historian systems (e.g. IP21) and condition monitoring tools
  • Interface with OEMs and third parties for technical support and failure analysis
  • Ensure lessons learned are captured and embedded into maintenance strategies
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes for reliability-related modifications
  • Contribute to long-term engineering and maintenance planning (LTE plans)
  • Provide technical guidance to maintenance teams during troubleshooting and execution

What we are looking for

  • MSc or BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in reliability, maintenance, or rotating equipment engineering in a process industry
  • Strong understanding of chemical plant dynamics and general equipment
  • Familiarity with reliability methodologies (RCM, FMECA, RCA)
  • Experience with SAP PM / APM systems is preferred
  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across operations and maintenance
  • Reliability certifications would be a plus

What success looks like in this role

  • Reduction in unplanned downtime and repeat failures
  • Improved equipment availability and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
  • Clear ownership of bad actors with measurable elimination progress
  • Strong integration between operations, maintenance, and engineering
  • A proactive reliability culture rather than reactive firefighting

This is what you are looking for in a job

  • A good salary. You will receive a 13th month, a monthly salary holiday allowance (>8%), a profit distribution and a bonus/target scheme.
  • A social employer. We have a collective pension scheme and health insurance with a group discount.
  • With our wide range of training opportunities, you can always develop further.
  • Pleasant, open, informal working atmosphere. Working in a fun and close-knit team.
  • Enough vacation days.
  • Room for new initiatives and ideas.
